End of the year.

Okay, so its the end of the year and most music publications have put up their albums of they year.  I have seen several including the NME’s, Clash Music and the BBC.  One album has not appeared in any of these lists.  That album is Glasvegas’s Euphoric//Heartbreak.  Now this would be fine if this album wasn’t raved by the critics!  Both NME and Clash gave this album a fucking 9/10 Clash called them pioneers etc etc.  WHY THE FUCK WASN’T IT MENTIONED THEN!? It didn’t appear in any of the BBC writers individual top 5.  This has really broken my heart.  Glasvegas are a band I have been following since I was 14.  A band that has truly touched my heart.  James Allan, the poet of this band is a great hero of mine.  Their debut dominated the Top 10 albums of the year in 2008.  Then they released the incredible Euphoric//Heartbreak with great reviews yet they don’t appear in the top albums of the year not even the top 50! But wait Beyonce is in the top 10 albums of the year for the BBC.  King of Limbs has appeared in the top 50 of these lists!  An album stated to be poor and disappointing but topping the polls?  This is what I hate about music publications.  They deem something to be shit and worthless and then suddenly putting it at the top of the album charts when another band could take their place!  Now I’m not saying Radiohead are shit.  They are one of my favourite bands but come on!  King of Limbs was one of the most disappointing albums I’ve ever heard!  I was so psyched for it!  I downloaded it immediately when i got home, BOOM!  Thom and Co just providing average songs, after the amazing In Rainbows!  And critics agreed with me!  It’s in fucking print, it’s in their articles, yet its in a high placing in the top albums of the year lists! Its all seems like these top albums are mostly consisted of safe popular indie bands.  I mean look at the NME’s top 4.  PJ Harvey, Metronomy and then The Horrors.  (Skying fucking kicked ass), and then Wild Beasts. Now I agree with the Horrors placing and yeah great albums (except for PJ’s)  but it all seems so safe so secure.  The great albums in this list are the popular ones, the ones that people are familiar with.  I’ve come across so many great albums this year, which I have found out through NME and other publications which have been given high ratings but don’t appear in these lists.  I’m kinda sick of these publications ranting on about indie music should be dominating the music industry.  And how we should only listen to them and back them up.  Yeah we should!  But just listen to indie alternative music?  Boring.   I mean I don’t want to hear just indie music for my whole life!  I love chart pop songs!  (“Sexy and I know it” is a classic)  There should be a mix up of indie and pop!   And Im sorry but some of those bands cant be deemed indie or small if they can reach the top 10 like most of them have!  I’m sorry but if an album reaches the top 10 that’s pretty commercial!  So why not give the higher rated albums of 2011 by smaller indie bands take their true placings in the album chart.  Don’t do it out of popularity or how its affected the political world (Looking at you PJ).  Place an album on the original album rating don’t be biased on if an Artist/ band is now popular like how the NME has treated Kings Of Leon.  Give an album a good rating cause it has a collection of great songs, performed well, with good production and original ideas.  Not because you fancy the lead singer  or something fucking dumb like that.  Albums that get 10’s and 9’s put them in the top 10 albums that got 8’s and 7’s top 20-30 6’s top 40-50.  There sorted done that’s how a Top album list should be compiled! SORTED DONE!  Rant over.  P.s Coldplay get way too much hate.  They are good.  Except for that one featuring Rihanna.  Thats just average as fuck.
